Anti govt. pilgrims chant defamatory slogans at PM Shehbaz’s delegation in Madina

ideos on social media show demonstrators chanting slogans ‘Thieves, Traitors, Turncoats'

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif along with his delegation, who is in Saudi Arabia on a three-day official visit, was confronted by “angry” Pakistani protesters – apparently supporters of the PTI – at Masjid-e-Nabawi in Madina.

Videos doing round on social media show the protesters chanting slogans such as “Chor, Chor [thieves] and Traitors of Pakistan” against the members of the delegation who were escorted by the Saudi security personnel.

In a video statement, Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, who is accompanying PM Shehbaz, indirectly blamed PTI Chairman Imran Khan for the protest.

“I will not name this person on this holy land because I do not want to use this land for politics. But they have destroyed the [Pakistani] society,” she remarked.

She said their workers were also there, but they were instructed not to adopt such an attitude. The information minister regretted that there is a section of the society, which is maintaining such hateful traditions. She said it will take time, but these attitudes will change with “our positive attitude”.

Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said the “evil spread by former PM Imran violated the sanctity” of the Prophet’s Mosque in Madina.

Meanwhile, former human rights minister Shireen Mazari said in a tweet that, the “imported government of criminals brought in by US regime change conspiracy is met with chants of ‘thieves’ in Madina Sharif. Wherever they will go Pakistanis will shame this band of crooks. Any remorse within the Dark Shadows now?”

Federal ministers and parliamentarians, including Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, Miftah Ismail, Shahzain Bugti, Marriyum Aurangzeb, Khawaja Asif, Chaudhry Salik Hussain, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, and Mohsin Dawar accompanied the prime minister.
